Colonoscopy

Spirus Medical Endo EaseColorectal cancer is the second leading cause of cancer- related deaths in the United States. The American Cancer Society estimates there were 149,000 new cases of colorectal cancer in 2006, resulting in 55,000 deaths. Colonoscopy is the gold standard for the detection of early-stage colorectal cancer and for the removal of pre-cancerous polyps.

In 2001 the U.S. government began to provide reimbursement under the Medicare program for screening colonoscopy for asymptomatic patients over 50 years of age. This major coverage decision greatly increased the demand for colonoscopy. Colonoscopy can be a demanding procedure occasionally made more complex by difficult patient anatomy.

Spirus Medical offers two products to aid the insertion and advancement of a colonoscope. The Endo-Ease Advantage® has a 50cm working length to ease your passage through the sigmoid colon while the longer Endo -Ease Vista® (70cm) helps for deeper insertion. The devices’ spiral has a natural tendency to follow the lumen of the colon as it is rotated with gentle forward pressure. Once the desired portion of colon has been traversed, it is stabilized by the Endo-Ease over-tube while the scope is independently advanced through the remainder of the colon.

The Endo-Ease Advantage and Vista are compatible with your existing pediatric colonoscopes with an outer diameter of 11.1 mm—11.6 mm. A Gentle-Lock coupler can be disengaged and re-engaged allowing you the option to advance the scope traditionally when unlocked or with rotational advancement of the Endo-Ease when locked. The over-tubes are more flexible at the distal end and gradually transition to a less flexible proximal end. This variable stiffness results in an optimal integration of torque transmission and flexibility. For your convenience and your patient’s safety, the Endo-Ease Advantage and Vista are sterilized, single use devices.
